How Much will it cost?

BFPO worldwide parcels are charged at the UK standard rate

For families and friends of members of HM forces, who post their parcel using postage stamps, the prices shown below are inclusive. However, for commercial users the charge covers delivery to BFPO only and the Ministry of Defence (MoD) will charge independently for the conveyance from the UK and delivery to BFPO addresses.

Compensation

Compensation for the loss of or damage to parcels up to £20 per parcel is included in the price charged for the BFPO Worldwide service. For the fees shown below customers may increase this cover up to a maximum of £500 per parcel.

Documentation

All HM forces parcels sent by customers who do not have a business contract with Parcelforce Worldwide must bear a fully completed despatch pack PFU5 (or replacement) available from your local Post Office branch. Business contract customers will be supplied with relevant documentation.

Prohibitions and restrictions

Certain goods and substances classified as dangerous must not be sent overseas.

Other articles may also be prohibited or restricted. If you have any doubts about items you wish to send contact the Parcelforce Worldwide Centre on 0800 22 44 66.

Packing and addressing

It is advisable to include your own and recipients name and address inside the parcel. All parcels must have sufficient packaging to protect the contents in transit. Remember that faulty or inadequate packaging can cause delays, damage or loss, and may affect any claim for compensation.

HM Forces based in the UK which do not have a BFPO number

The parcel service to the Royal Navy, Army, Royal Air Force and Commonwealth Forces serving in Great Britain , Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man are in general those of the UK standard rate.

HM Forces addresses overseas

Members of HM Forces stationed overseas may receive parcels at the Forces Concessionary rate if they are being sent to BFPO numbered addresses, including HM Ships (excluding Op TELIC, Op HERRICK, BFPO 622 and HM Ships in Support).

This includes any member of HM Forces serving at any APO address. All parcels must be clearly marked 'HM Forces Mail' in the top left hand corner, (excluding Op TELIC, Op HERRICK, BFPO 622 and HM Ships in Support).

HM Forces families overseas

Parcels may be sent to dependants of HM Forces stationed with their relatives overseas at the same rates and under the same conditions as those applicable to members of HM Forces, providing they are sent c/o the serving relative at the HM Forces address, (excluding Op TELIC, Op HERRICK, BFPO 622 and HM Ships in Support).

Entitled non-forces personnel stationed at HM Forces addresses may receive BFPO parcels at HM Forces rates.

Commonwealth Forces

Commonwealth forces serving with British units in the UK , or overseas, (excluding Op TELIC, Op HERRICK, BFPO 622 and HM Ships in Support), are entitled to send parcels at BFPO world-wide rates between BFPO locations and the UK .

Redirection

Parcels for HM Forces are exempt from any additional redirection costs when sent to a BFPO address or posted to the UK from a BFPO address.

International Datapost and Euro 48 services are not available to BFPO addresses.

Mail Prohibitions

In compliance with strict regulations the British Forces Post Office (BFPO) will not carry any item of mail containing substances identified by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) as hazardous. In addition the BFPO will not carry items listed as prohibited by the country of destination. Click on the link below for a list of mail prohitions, however this list is not exhaustive.
